Wikimedia is Social Innovation : Entrepreneurial Skills

“Social innovations are new strategies, concepts, ideas and organizations that meet the social needs of different elements which can be from working conditions and education to community development and health — they extend and strengthen civil society. Social innovation includes the social processes of innovation, such as open source methods and techniques and also the innovations which have a social purpose — like online volunteering, microcredit, or distance learning.” 
Wikimedia work requires social innovation; and needs social entrepreneurs to do this effectively. The purpose of this training workshop is to broaden the ideas and skills of Wikimedians in understanding how they could approach the work that they do in building communities, working with partners and encouraging contribution to the Wikimedia projects. It will look at how Wikimedia work is a social innovation, isolate what skills are required and how provide insight and tools that can help to create effective projects. Elements that could be touched on include - community engagement strategies, open business skills, budgeting and accountability, etc.
