This segment will be used to shed light on some interventions going on in Africa. This will be done by four different presenters each touching on a specific intervention in their countries.
Samuel Guebo (Collaborating with the GLAMs in Côte d’Ivoire)
Acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums, the GLAM project bridges the gap between Wiki platforms and local cultural actors. In Côte d'Ivoire, this "bridge" took the form of the GLAM initiative, thus following the patterns of other GLAM initiatives around the world. In the specific case of Côte d’Ivoire, the main goal of the GLAM initiative is that of generating sources for Wikipedia articles. In fact, during Wikipedia edit-a-thons (writing workshops), one of the recurring problems is the lack of sources. If they are not non-existent, they are too few in number, which often leads to deletions of articles. However, through their mission of conservation and preserving cultural heritage, GLAMs represent a vast supply of relevant sources for Ivorian articles on Wikipedia.
This session will explore the following questions:
• Which constraints were encountered in the collaboration process?
• How was the GLAM partnerships for wiki projects in Côte d'Ivoire?
This presentation intends to gather as much useful tips and ideas as possible for empowering our activities on the ground.
