Abstract

JoburgpediA is the first Wiki town project in Africa. It was started in 2013, with a seed grant from Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia UK. It brought together the City of Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation and the South African Constitutional Court in contact with the Wikimedia ZA volunteers over a course of 4 years to what is now a regular feature of wikipedia activities about the City of Johannesburg and its rich history. This presentation will show case the aspects of this project that make it sustainable with regards to costs and stakeholder buy-in.
